US Cargo Control Employee Bio: Joe

As our Freight and Customs Compliance Specialist, Joe is our go-to guy for all things freight-related. And because we sell and ship everything from 1″ D-rings to 12′  lengths of L-track tie down rails, it’s a job that’s different every day. Our new US Cargo Control Canadian shipping program wouldn’t have been possible without Joe’s expertise!

US Cargo Control Employee Bio: Allen

Our warehouse is a busy place and we have our Receiving Manager, Allen, to thank for helping to keep everything moving smoothly every day. He’s also worked in other areas of shipping and receiving, and is one of the first to pitch in whenever other teams need some extra help. We like to think of the company as having a family atmosphere, and that’s really true for Allen- watch and find out why!

US Cargo Control Employee Bio: David

David is part of our sales team, so you may have talked with him if you’ve ever called about a product or placed an order over the phone. He’s really become one of our rigging supplies experts, a category he enjoys because he likes the challenge of finding the right product for the customers’ needs. David was also recently recognized by ESPN- watch and find out why!

“Hola” to our Spanish-Speaking Customers

Customers calling US Cargo Control for product information or to place an order now have the option of speaking in Spanish.

Product Specialist Ed Duran is our resident Spanish-speaking expert and takes between five and ten calls a week. He says many of those customers speak both English and Spanish, but are most comfortable communicating in Spanish, especially when asking questions about products and specifications.

Duran was born in Cuba and grew up in Miami, speaking both languages. He says he’s happy to be able to help customers that call with questions.

“While the terminology can be different, the information is generally very similar. It’s just that my brain has to shift gears when Spanish-speaking customer calls come in,” says Duran.

The upswing in bi-lingual callers reflects a trend nationwide. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Hispanic population is projected to reach 60 million in 2020.

Spanish-speaking customers can also reach Ed via e-mail at:

What made you decide to come to US Cargo Control?

I spent seven years at Theisen’s, a major Midwestern retailer of  farm, home, and ranch supplies and equipment, and then decided to get into management which lead me to a service manager position with Wells Fargo bank. Both jobs were based largely on helping customers with daily needs and providing excellent customer service. As soon as I read about the position with US Cargo Control, I knew right away that this was the place for me. It was also about helping customers, but with a dose of fun and camaraderie, too. Where else do you get to compete with co-workers on a regular basis in a game of Ping-Pong, bags, or pool? I must say I can play some Forrest Gump  ping- pong now.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy my co-workers the most. When we are not on the phone assisting customers, we really enjoy each other’s company.

Are there one or two most common questions you hear from US Cargo Control callers?

Where are you guys located?” and “Can I get this measurement on this?”

Which product do you think we sell the most of?

E-Track and related components, specifically plastic end caps. I’ve got some stocks in the product.

Have there been any memorable calls/customers?

Oh yes, I once talked to a hit man and the conversation was very interesting, and actually a little scary. He told me how to take a guy’s legs out while being in a large vehicle using a loading dock.

Hobbies?  Snowmobiling, motorcycling, boating…  anything that makes my heart beat a little faster to give me an adrenaline  rush.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Michael Jordan, so I guess a professional basketball player.

Favorite sport(s) to play?

Basketball, football, and tennis. Do horse shoes, bags, and hacky sack count as a sport?

What three words would your friends us to describe you?

Perfectionist, Loyal, and Friendly.

Favorite sports teams to watch?

Da Bulls back in the day when MJ was tearing it up.

Three pet peeves?

Food on a person’s face or teeth…. or even just a long hair hanging off of someone, sick! I always tell the person though. Driving a car that’s dirty both inside and out.

What are few things your bucket list?

Play Jordan in a game of one-on-one. Ride a wheelie in every gear on my bike. Parasail.

You have a 10 minute speech to give at a high school graduation. What would it be about?

You live life only once; take chances and stay humble.

US Cargo Control Warehouse Team Profile

The latest installment in our team profile is this US Cargo Control warehouse group that’s responsible for getting our customer’s orders out quickly and efficiently. We try very hard to ship packages out the same business day if the order is placed by 4:00 pm  central time, and this team is instrumental in making that happen every day. Cody Smith manages this group that continues to grow as we add new team members to the warehouse to meet increasing demand. Along with picking and shipping of products, Cody’s team also handles quality control issues.

US Cargo Control Sales Team Profile: Lisa

Lisa has been with US Cargo Control for nearly four years and is an integral part of our Sales and Service team. If you’ve called USCC lately, you may have spoken with her.

Lisa M., US Cargo Control Sales and Customer Service Team Lead

Current position title and duties?
Service Team Lead – the service team is a section of Sales and Customer Service that focuses on making sure our customers have a positive experience ordering with US Cargo Control – including ensuring that orders ship promptly, helping customers with questions, and processing returns. We also work to implement improvements that help our whole team work more efficiently.

What was your position when you started, and what other positions have you held here?
I have been in Sales and Customer Service since I started, but the position has changed quite a bit. Our company has expanded, our systems have changed, and we’ve added many new products and our processes have become so much more efficient that it is hardly the same job as when I started.

Prior experience to US Cargo Control?
I was a Sales Assistant for a promotional products distributor helping customers find the right products for their needs, and before that I worked with my dad, who owns a small print business. By his example I learned a lot about the importance of going the extra mile for customers and earning their business.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
No two days are the same. We’re constantly working to improve our processes, add new products, and I hear new questions from customers that I hadn’t considered before. The variety keeps it interesting and challenging.

Are there one or two most common questions you hear from US Cargo Control callers?
We have a huge variety of products, so we get a variety of questions, but most often I have customers ask for advice on which moving blankets to order. We have 10 styles to choose from, and the customers’ needs vary from those who are using the blankets for a one time household move, to professional movers, to someone who is using the blankets for pets or other household uses.

City, state or country you loved to visit, or would like to someday?
The list of places I would like to visit is too long to list here… If I had to pick one place that I would love to revisit, that would be Germany. I studied German language in school and traveled to Germany while I was in high school. In college I was able to study abroad for six months and had a great experience. I have not been able to get back there since then, but I plan to someday.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an architect.

Favorite sports team or sport to watch?
Favorite team would be the Iowa Hawkeyes (I am an alum) and favorite college sport is football. Otherwise my favorite sport to watch is motocross or supercross.

What three words would your friends use to describe you?
Most people would probably describe me as quiet and easy-going. Those that know me well know that I am very forgetful and am constantly making lists and jotting down reminders to myself.

You have a 10 minute speech to give at a high school graduation. What would it be about?
Live with integrity and respect others. You will feel good about yourself and others will feel good about you as well, and you will be happier in life.
