US Cargo Control Recognized as “Coolest Place to Work”

At US Cargo Control, we typically prefer to stay laser-focused on ensuring our customers stay successful by ensuring we get you what you want, when you need it. But we are pretty proud of the recognition we’ve recently received.

Cody Smith of US Cargo Control

“Our values are unique because they don’t just focus on work, they highlight how important it is to value our family lives as much as our work contributions.”

– Cody Smith, Warehouse Manager

Clickstop, the power behind US Cargo Control, was just named 2018’s No. 1 “Coolest Place to Work” in the Eastern Iowa Corridor. Because US Cargo Control is comprised of the same employees as Clickstop, this award belongs to US Cargo Control just as much as it belongs to Clickstop.

It’s a testament to our leadership, our dedicated staff, and the Core Values which direct us in our daily work. And it’s the fuel that drives us to continue working with steadfast dedication to our customers.

US Cargo Control Coolest Places to Work
Because US Cargo Control is comprised of the same employees as Clickstop, this award belongs to US Cargo Control just as much as it belongs to Clickstop.

How is “Coolest Place to Work” Decided?

In 2013, the Corridor Business Journal (CBJ) unveiled a new way to recognize businesses for their culture.  Throughout the Corridor, companies of all sizes compete for the prize of “Coolest Place to Work.” The contest identifies and honors Eastern Iowa companies that have created the most engaging and rewarding work environments. Winners are selected based on Worker Satisfaction Surveys and recognized within small (1-20 employees), medium (21-99 employees) and large (100 or more employees) businesses.

USCC & Clickstop named Coolest Place to Work in iowa

The consistency with which Clickstop (and US Cargo Control) has fared is unmatched.  Clickstop has made the list each year, and for the second time, the honor of “Coolest Place to Work” is theirs.

What Makes US Cargo Control Cool?

US Cargo Control founder and CEO, Tim Guenther has made the message clear from the beginning, “We’re building a business that people care about.”  He isn’t lying.

Genuine dedication is apparent in each US Cargo Control employee.

“We know we all have the best interest of the company and its customers in mind,” said Phil Kramer, Finance Specialist at US Cargo Control. “We work as a team and put the “We” mentality over the “Me” mentality.”

This commitment to workplace excellence may be best explained by our Core Values. These six non-negotiable expectations are more than words on a conference room wall, they are embedded in everything we say and do at US Cargo Control.

Memorial Day 2018: Military Discount, Patriotic ways to Celebrate

US Cargo Control team

US Cargo Control appreciates and remembers the grit and bravery of all U.S. military members who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom.

That’s why US Cargo Control offers a site-wide 10% military discount to all current, former, retired, and disabled members and dependents of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard and Reserve. More on this later.

First and foremost, remember that this is a day of remembrance and recognition. There are many different things you can do on this holiday, but some are more patriotic and impactful than others.

Patriotic Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day

It’s fine to have your barbecue and to enjoy some sunshine and watersports. But, also find some time to infuse remembrance and solidarity for these heroic men and women.

  1. Visit a war memorial or veteran’s cemetery in your town.
  2. Attend a local parade or event. Or, watch the National Memorial Day Parade online.
  3. Invite military families and veterans over to your barbecue.
  4. Fly an American flag. Keep it at half-mast until noon, then raise it to full mast for the remainder of Memorial Day.
  5. Be a part of the National Moment of Remembrance. The president will issue a prayer for peace followed by a silent moment of remembrance at 3 p.m. local time.

Continuing Military Discount at US Cargo Control

Remember, the USCC 10% military discount covers everything (excluding shipping) found on the USCC website, from ratchet straps and motorcycle tie downs to moving blanketschain, and more.

US Cargo Control has already discounted over 600 orders for military members and dependents! It’s just a small way to give back to the brave men and women of the United States military.

To all current, former, retired, and disabled heroes of the U.S. military, thank you for your service.

US Cargo Control is Headed to NATE UNITE 2018

The NATE Association

US Cargo Control is a proud member of the National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE). NATE is a non-profit trade association that provides members with uniform safety standards, improved communications, and a unified voice for tower erection, service and maintenance companies.

For over 20 years, NATE has been recognized as the industry leader in promoting safety, standards, education and uniform practices and procedures.

Next week, Nashville, TN, is hosting NATE UNITE 2018, and our very own Lacy, Alex and David are very excited to be attending this annual event. These three are all members of US Cargo Control’s dedicated Rigging & Lifting team, meaning they are product experts within this specialized industry.

Along with educational sessions led by industry experts discussing current relevant topics, there is also an exhibition component where attendees get to meet other professionals within the telecommunications industry and see what new products are available.

The US Cargo Control team will be exhibiting at booth #437. Among the new products we’ll have on hand are Crosby, Van Beest, and Chicago Hardware shackles; cargo and lifting nets; a variety of slings; as well as custom options for lifting and rigging supplies.

Our team knows that NATE puts on a great annual event that never disappoints. From the educational sessions to the networking events, NATE does a great job of getting everyone involved. “One thing I have noticed about NATE and the telecom industry is the people and the passion they have for what they are doing,” says Lacy. We find that truly inspiring.

David, Alex and Lacy are most looking forward to spending time with our current customers, and they can’t wait to meet new people and spread that word about what US Cargo Control can do for their company. From the networking to the learning and beyond, US Cargo Control is very proud to be a NATE member, and a part of #NATEUNITE2018!

Please stop by and meet David, Alex and Lacy if you are attending this wonderful event.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Did you know it’s National Truck Driver Appreciation Week?

September 10-16, 2017 has been designated by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (#NTDAW), when America takes the time to honor all professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in tackling one of our economy’s most demanding and important jobs.

Recent numbers indicate there are currently 3.5 million professional drivers in the United States. This annual celebration was started in 1988 by ATA, the largest national trade association for the trucking industry, and recognizes the significant contributions of America’s truck drivers.

US Cargo Control specializes in cargo control products, and we work very closely with the trucking and transportation industry. We strive to understand the needs of this industry in order to offer the best solutions and best products. We talk to truck drivers every day, and appreciate their needs and their challenges.

What does this mean to US Cargo Control?

Todd Kuennen
Todd Kuennen, president of US Cargo Control

We enjoy the relationships we’ve built with truck drivers over the years, and Truck Driver Appreciation Week is important to us.

“Truck drivers roll coast to coast, oftentimes 24/7, to get us the goods we need and want, despite sacrificing time with families and potentially dangerous driving conditions,” said Todd Kuennen, president of US Cargo Control. “This is an opportunity for us to show gratitude for the dedication of these hardworking men and women, and raise awareness and appreciation of the critical role they play in our daily lives.”

We encourage you to check out our Facebook page and to find out more about how we plan to celebrate this week.

If you’re one of our email subscribers, you’ve already gotten a message with an exclusive offer in honor of #NTDAW. Not an email member? Subscribe here.

US Cargo Control Employees Experience Hands-On Training

Flatbed training on products from
Instructor Freddie Jones (left) leads an interactive hands-on training session with employees of US Cargo Control.

Sixty employees of US Cargo Control were recently treated to a Continuing Education opportunity at their offices in Urbana, IA. Instructors from nearby Kirkwood Community College’s Professional Truck Driving program led four separate two-hour training sessions featuring hands-on experience with a variety of tools and equipment drivers use to secure cargo on a flatbed trailer.

Freddie Jones, operations manager for Kirkwood’s Truck Driving program, and Dennis Carson, instructor for Kirkwood’s Truck Driving program, were the presenters for Friday’s training sessions. Both men have many years of real-life experience driving trucks.

The training began with a short video detailing some of the cargo securement laws that drivers must abide by, what a driver’s CSA (compliance, safety, accountability) score is and different ways it can be affected, as well as how to calculate Working Load Limit weights and the number of tie-downs necessary for a particular load.

The group then headed outside where a flatbed trailer was waiting with a skid loader and stack of pallets, both ready to be properly secured.

Hands-on items

Some of the equipment US Cargo Control employees learned to use included ratchet straps, tie down straps, winches, winch bars, chain, chain binders, corner protectors, tarps and tarp straps. Best-practices stories were also shared with the group.

Jones and Carson learned a few things from the US Cargo Control employees, as well. They were excited to discover tools offered by like the Peerless QuikBinder™ Plus Ratchet Loadbinder that is easier to use than a more traditional ratchet chain binder; and the VeeBoards® Extension Handle that helps position corner protectors atop tall loads while the driver remains standing on the ground.

Ongoing Education

David Urlaub, US Cargo Control’s training coordinator, says the benefits of this type of training to the company’s employees are immeasurable. “Giving USCC employees the chance to use the products so they can take that back to their jobs and pass along correct information to the drivers who use our products is extremely important,” Urlaub said. He added, “We can better understand what a truck driver goes through on a daily basis to tie down their loads, and see how physical this job is for the drivers. Any products that make their life easier could be good additions to our site.”

While employees of US Cargo Control have ongoing product training throughout the year, this is the first hands-on training session. This training was funded by 260E dollars. The goal, according to Urlaub, is to have this type of training on an annual basis going forward.

New Guy Wire and Tower Erector Products Assisting Customers in the Field

11The addition of new guy wire and other Tower Erector Products is helping US Cargo Control customers in the Tower Erection field find the quality tower supplies they need, when they need them.

The company added several new products including 1×19 galvanized guy strand (EHS) and X7 galvanized guy strand (EHS), big grip dead ends, and end sleeve ice clips. As a leading supplier in the rigging, lifting and cargo securement industries US Cargo Control already offered a variety of hardware, including shackles, turnbuckles, wire rope clips, and wire rope thimbles.

US Cargo Control Merchandising Specialist Matt Mitchell said the decision to add the product line came after industry professionals contacted the company in search of industrial-quality equipment that could ship quickly nationwide.Cellphone_aerial_mast

“We realized quickly this could be a win-win for customers in the industry,” Mitchell explained. “We did the research and took the steps to become a distributor of products necessary for this type of specialized work.”

The company’s extra high strength (EHS) guy wire meets ASTM A475, the standard specification for zinc-coated steel wire strand. All products meet TIA/EIA-222 provisions. Custom pricing is available for contractors and other large volume customers. Customers  can contact the US Cargo Control sales team at 800-660-3585, or email

Mitchell says the new line is another example of the company’s employees building relationships and listening to customers as a way to improve and expand its product line.

“The guy wire addition is a great example of our sales people taking the time to learn about our customers and listen to their needs,” Mitchell said. “Our number one goal is to get the customer what they want, when they need it.”

US Cargo Control is a proud member of The National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE).

Guy wire installation is not a do-it-yourself  job. It should only be done by experienced, trained professionals. For information on Guy Wire installation, using a Guy Wire Calculator, regulatory issues, safety topics, and more, contact a professional in your area or visit the NATE website:  The National Association of Tower Erectors.

US Cargo Control to Expand

This week, US Cargo Control announced plans for a multimillion dollar expansion including further investment in its manufacturing division.

Company Founder and CEO Tim Guenther unveiled his preliminary plans when Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham came tocopy-logo.png tour the Iowa based company on Wednesday, June 17. Durham visited Benton County as part of a local economic event hosted by the Benton Development Group. Her visit was just one stop as she sought to better understand the needs of businesses in rural Iowa.

US Cargo Control brings in more than 90 percent of revenue for its parent company Clickstop, which owns and operates several brands that serve diverse markets ranging from the moving and cargo control industries (, to energy efficient insulation (, fasteners ( and home storage solutions ( &

Two years ago the company began manufacturing tie-down products for its flagship brand US Cargo Control. Since then, the brand’s customer base, product lines and manufacturing sector have boomed.

Officials expect to break ground in September 2015 with an estimated completion date of August 2016.

US Cargo Control Adds Kayak Straps

US Cargo Control is now offering kayak, canoe and boat tie-down equipment as the busy water sport season gets underway. These straps are specially designed to withstand the wear and tear of recreational water sports.

1" x 2' Endless Cam Strap w/ Wear Pad
1″ x 2′ Endless Cam Strap w/ Wear Pad

The straps are 1’’ wide and come in a variety of lengths. They are made with water resistant polyester meaning they will not mold, mildew or rot. Polyester can also withstand the sun’s UV rays and will stretch minimally.

USCC watersport straps feature a wear pad on the buckle as well as vinyl on all hooks to protect the boat from any cosmetic damage from metal pieces. US Cargo Control Category Manager Kerry Trenkamp brought on the new line of tie downs. She says her team prioritized protection when searching for the right equipment to add to the brand.

“The last thing we want our customers to worry about is damage,” Trenkamp said. “We understand the importance of keeping the watercraft secure and scratch-free.”

Many of the water recreation straps offered by US Cargo Control are outfitted with a cam buckle. People can over-tighten gear like a kayak or canoe with a traditional ratchet strap. That risk is limited with a cam buckle.

Retractable ratchet straps are also available as transom tie downs. They are designed to keep extra material from tangling and flapping during transport.

The release of the new product line comes as Iowa’s newest and largest white-water course celebrates its grand opening. Manchester White Water Park in Manchester, Iowa will host its Let It Flow Riverfest June 19-21. US Cargo Control donated four, $25 gift cards and a gift basket containing US Cargo Control watersport straps to be given away during the event.

“We wanted to celebrate with area water sport enthusiasts and let them know these new products are available to keep their gear safe as they travel this summer,” Trenkamp said.

New Products: Grade 120 Chain

Grade 120 chain by the foot

If you’re looking for the best lifting chains and bulk chain in the industry, look no further than grade 120 chain.

120 grade chain is a new generation of high performance chain. With working load limits 50% higher than traditional grade 80 chain, and 20% stronger than grade 100 chain, it’s ideal for any application requiring superior strength.

The higher levels of strength also allows for significant reduction in overall chain weight, an excellent benefit for lifting applications.

The added strength comes from the chain’s square link design, which provides higher wear resistance. Because there’s increased contact between the links’ bearing surfaces, pressure is reduced on the chain, which reduces overall wear and encourages a longer working life.

Grade 120 connecting link
Grade 120 connecting link

This square profile also offers up to 38% higher moment of resistance in comparison to traditional round links in the same diameter. This translates into the chain being able to withstand bending forces- making it the superior chain for heavy duty jobs.

In comparing chain with the same dimension and workload, grade 120 alloy offers a design factor of 6:1 compared to G80 with 4:1.

120 grade chain is manufactured with a powder coat finish for corrosion protection. The bright blue color also makes it easily identifiable.

Our grade 120 chain comes from the experts at pewag, the leaders in chain technology and manufacturing since its first documented forging plan in Austria in 1479. pewag’s North American distribution company and service center was founded in 1975.

We’re pleased to carry grade 120 chain in four sizes: 9/32″, 5/16″, 3/8″, and 1/2″, all in full drum sizes of cut lengths by the foot. Grade 120 fittings are also available. Shop the full selection here: Grade 120 chain.
