Did you know our Manufacturing team received the biggest cargo net order recently? Read to learn more!
What is this Giant Cargo Net?
Like many companies, manufacturing is the backbone of USCC. Just last week, our dedicated, hard-working Manufacturing team created their biggest cargo net yet. Without them, we would have not fulfilled this gigantic and unique order!
This giant cargo net comes in at a whopping 60′ x 80′, and it only took about a week for our team to create this product to life. This heavy duty cargo net could not even fit in our tarp area that is a 60′ x 40′ area. That is one huge net!
60 Feet by 80 Feet? How Did They Create This Large Cargo Net?
The team took on the project with a high level of enthusiasm and commitment, and we know it wasn’t easy. There were small-detailed tasks that they had to perform such as tacking the nets with a hot iron and sewing 3,300 individual tasks. To finally complete the tacking task, they must inspect each tack.
Way to Go Manufacturing Team!
We at US Cargo Control are proud of all the work each person did to create this product. The special thing about our Manufacturing team is they can create any custom product for you, such as ratchet straps, tarps, netting, lifting slings, and more! Without manufacturing, we wouldn’t be able to provide our customers with the custom solutions they need.
Check out more behind-the-scenes shots of the Manufacturing team while they were working on the net!
Whatever you need, we got you. You can count on us to get you what you want, when you need it, so continue to keep placing your orders and our Manufacturing team will keep the quality products going.
While the option to buy domestic or import cargo control products is always on the table, the domestic option may be especially appealing to you this week. Here’s why.
Hint: #5 will save you money.
At USCC, we pride ourselves on providing you with a wide range of options to ensure your specific needs are met. As a solutions provider that continually works to get you what you want, when you need it, we have thousands of cargo control products from a variety of sources, all within one easy-to-use website.
While the option to buy either domestic or import cargo control products is always on the table, the domestic option may be especially appealing to you this week. Here’s why.
1. You will help save and create jobs
There are currently around 12.84 million workers in the manufacturing sector. Buying products that are manufactured by American companies not only helps ensure that those workers get to keep their job, but it also opens the door to continued growth within the manufacturing industry. At USCC we’re proud to have over 30 employees on our manufacturing team right here in Iowa. They’re the backbone of our organization and the reason why we’re able to deliver high-quality custom cargo control products.
2. You will help boost the entire American economy
Buying American-made products causes domestic growth beyond only the manufacturing industry; it creates a positive ripple effect throughout our entire economy. When American manufacturing plants prosper they spend more on things like energy, accounting, and construction. All of this spending positively affects other American companies (and workers) that offer these services. Overall, the EPI estimates that every U.S. manufacturing job supports an additional 1.4 jobs in other parts of the economy.
3. You will help reduce pollution and carbon footprint
Although the domestic option usually isn’t the cheapest, there are hidden costs for import products that go far beyond your wallet. Robust air, water, and health regulations in the United States ensure that, in general, American-made products are created in a way that significantly minimizes the creation of hazardous chemicals. In addition, products made overseas have a much higher carbon footprint due to the fact that they must be shipped across the ocean, which requires large amounts of fossil fuel.
4. You will get a high-quality product
When it comes to cargo control gear, dependable products are the name of the game. We’ve partnered with American vendors to provide a variety of high-quality product options that are made here in the USA. We have a broad selection of products to meet the needs of our customers and get them what they want when they need it.
5. You will save 10% with our made-in-the-USA promotion
Last but not least, a major reason to buy made-in-the-USA products this week is our 4th of July promotion! From now until Sunday, July 7th you can save 10% on nearly 2,000 different made-in-the-USA cargo control products including Crosby® wire rope slings, transport chain and binders, polyester round slings, endless slings, and more. That’s huge savings on the high-quality products that minimize pollution, boost our economy, and ensure American manufacturing jobs.
In all, about 55 industry professionals attended the day-long event.
(and where to find free upcoming training sessions)
A few weeks ago, a large section of the USCC headquarters in Urbana, Iowa transformed from cafeteria to classroom in order to hold an important rigging principles training event for professionals in the communication tower industry.
In all, about 55 members of the industry attended the day-long event, all with the goal of advancing their knowledge of key rigging principles including using synthetic rope, rope inspection, rigging forces and lift systems, plus communication and execution of hoisting operations per the ANSE/ASSE 10.48 Standard.
How it Happened
The free training was provided by The National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE), a non-profit organization that USCC is proud to be an active member of. They’re experts in the wireless and broadcast infrastructure industries and are always looking for ways to spread information and education. In the past, we’ve shared info about the NATE UNITE conference and trade show in Nashville, which some of our rigging product sales specialists attend annually and always learn a lot from.
A NATE representative was recently visiting USCC headquarters and after seeing our facility, suggested to the NATE office that they use our space. There were 12 locations picked all across the country, with the next closest ones taking place in St. Louis and Milwaukee.
Sections of the Advanced Rigging Principles Training
The Advanced Rigging Principles curriculum is organized into six sections:
• Section 1: Introduction to NATE and OSHA • Section 2: State of the Industry • Section 3: Primary Regulations, Codes, Standards, and Policies • Section 4: Synthetic Rope • Section 5: Rigging Forces and Lift Systems • Section 6: Communication and Execution of Hoisting Operations
Interested in Attending?
There are still a handful of opportunities to attend this free class at other locations across the United States. See the chart below for dates, locations, and how to register now.
Although the weather in many places doesn’t tell us so, trade show season is upon us. If you haven’t already, many of you will soon find yourself at an industry trade show, safety meeting, or annual meeting in the coming months. And because USCC serves the trucking & transportation, rigging & lifting, and moving industries, many members of our team have been on the road, in booths, and at industry events across the country.
No matter what industry you’re a part of, trade shows are a way to discover businesses and resources in your industry and learn about the products or services they offer. It’s a chance to compare similar resources apples-to-apples and decide which provides the best value for your individual needs. And while part of this is likely product selection, price, freight time, and other logistical calculations don’t make the mistake of overlooking the most important and valuable aspect of trade shows and of good business—the people.
It’s About the People
In an age where just about every business has a website address, list of social media accounts, and handful of other digital tools to communicate and serve their customers with, it’s easy to get sucked into the screen and miss the big picture.
Don’t get me wrong, websites that make online ordering easy are a great thing. In general, technology gives us all a way to get information quickly, weight our options, and get jobs done more efficiently. Just don’t allow it to make you lose sight of the reason for the work that you do.
At the end of the day, the most important part of our business, and your business, is people. It’s about making people’s lives safer, easier, and more productive. We give people the tools to start their own business, continually grow one that’s been around for decades, or simply get a job done right.
Whether it’s hauling the White House Christmas tree across the country so thousands can enjoy its beauty or delivering fuel to a gas pump so people can drive to work. Constructing a high-rise apartment building so hundreds of people have a home, or building a suspended footbridge so a few people can escape to nature. Moving a family of six across the country for new opportunity, or moving your neighbor’s couch down some stairs to enjoy just for the big game. Your job, no matter what it entails on the surface, is about helping people.
Our job is about making it safe and easy for you to help. Because, when we do that, everyone benefits.
What’s important to you?
Trade shows allow us to catch up face-to-face with the people we regularly talk to over the phone or through email. They allow us to meet customers old and new, shake their hand, look them in their eyes, and listen to their individual wants and needs. Some have questions on shipping rates, some love our custom products, and others want us to explain differences between similar products. No computer could understand those individual needs as clearly as a human conversation can.
It’s easy to overlook real human connection in this digital age, but its importance will never change no matter what industry you’re in.
It’s why our founder, Tim, started and sticks by his promise of getting you “What you want, when you need it.” We understand the importance of building relationships with the people who keep these important industries moving forward. Every business and every person is unique. Without taking the time to truly understand your unique situation, we would be selling ourselves short.
It’s more than just doing business, it’s helping people be more and achieve more. It’s working with you individually to ensure your needs are met and your business can be successful. If we do that, you’re able to pass the same level of dedication on to your customers and the people you help every day by doing your job well.

This self-contained ratchet strap is your solution to loose strap ends
A common problem for ratchet strap users is figuring out what to do with all the excess strap webbing once the straps are secure. And storing ratchet straps in a neat and organized way can be equally as difficult.
But the problem is bigger than just tangled straps and the annoyance of hearing strap ends flapping in the wind as they become prematurely worn down. Loose ratchet strap tails pose a serious danger to everyone on the road as they can get caught under tires and quickly cause an accident.
There have been many interesting attempts to solve the ratchet strap loose end problem including tying the ends into complicated knots, duct taping or zip-tying them, and even closing strap ends in the door of a vehicle.
But none of these temporary fixes have the same intelligent design or long-term efficiency as USCC’s patented Rollup Ratchet – the best solution to ratchet strap loose ends.
How to Use Self-Contained Ratchet Straps
Feed your strap through the ratchet mandrill just as you would with any ratchet.
Spin the attached knob to neatly roll up all the loose webbing. Twist the knob towards you to lock in place.
Why Buy Rollup Ratchet?
The Rollup Ratchet is the best self-contained ratchet strap available today.
1. Quality Construction
Our Rollup Ratchet is professionally manufactured and designed to meet or exceed all DOT & CVSA regulations. The neon yellow polyester webbing is easy to spot and is abrasion and UV resistant.
2. Added Safety Factor
Our patented rolling spindle and sturdy ratchet assembly give you peace of mind knowing your straps aren’t going near other vehicle’s tires or getting worn down from flapping in the wind as you go down the roadway.
3. 100-Day Guarantee
Buy with confidence. If for any reason you aren’t totally satisfied with the Rollup Ratchet, you can return it for a refund.
1-inch wide self-contained straps are great for securing light cargo and are commonly used in pickup truck beds, small trailers, and cargo racks.
These 1-inch straps are available in two different lengths: 10-foot and 16-foot. Both come with vinyl-coated S-hooks on each end and have a working load limit of 833 pounds. Perfect for hauling ATVs, dirt bikes, lawnmowers, and more.
2-Inch Roll Up Ratchet Straps
With higher working load limit, longer strap lengths, and different end-fittings, 2-inch self-contained straps provide you with more options when it comes to what you can haul and how you haul it.
Our 2-inch straps are available with 18-foot webbing and 27-foot webbing. Both lengths can be purchased with either flat hook end fittings or double j-hook (wire hook) end fittings. With a 3,333-pound working load limit, these straps can safely secure some serious cargo and you’ll never have to worry about excess strap webbing getting in the way of your haul.

Previous USCC Website
New USCC Website
Why did we change it?
Simply put, there are two main reasons why we updated the USCC website.
Other cargo control websites are not easy to use.
We want it to be easy for our customers to get what they want, when they need it.
We’ve streamlined the way products are found on our website so you can search less and find more.
1. Menus by Industry
We separated our products into 3 main industries and put them right at the top of each page for quick and easy access to your industry.
2. Filter Options
No more searching through pages of similar products. Once you know the type of product you want, you can quickly and easily choose the color, length, width, and strength that you need using the “Filter Results” box on the left-hand side.
3. Product Variations
Additionally, when you find yourself on a product page you can toggle between different product attributes such as color and length, without having to leave the page.
4. Dynamic Left-Side Navigation
The product category links are still on the left side of the page. But, to keep related products just a click away, they now change depending on which page you’re currently on.
5. More Product Information
We added additional product info on both the product category and product pages so you can be more informed before you buy.
Also, look for “Best Seller” badges next to products to see what other customers are buying.
6. Clear Shipping Details
The new USCC website clearly shows when a product in your cart will ship, and confirms this at checkout. Look for the bright green clock to see this information.
More speed, security, and mobile friendliness
Other than the obvious difference in how our website looks, there’s a lot of great stuff going on under the hood.
8. Faster Website Speed 9. Mobile Friendly 10. Enhanced Security
What do you think?
Give the new USCC website a test drive and let us know what you like and what you think needs improvement. We put our customers first and always value your input.
Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of well-deserved celebration around our manufacturing team. Not only did they get a sweet surprise on National Manufacturing Day, but they were also just recognized by the Associated Wire Rope Fabricators (AWRF) for their dedication to exceptional safety.
Check out the video below to see the authentic surprise from our deserving manufacturing team.
Authentic Surprise in Manufacturing
Like many companies, manufacturing is the backbone of USCC. Without it, salesmen would have nothing to sell and the warehouse team wouldn’t have products to pick. So, when we heard that National Manufacturing Day was coming up a few weeks ago, all the teams at USCC came together to show our appreciation.
Over 45 different poster and signs were created to show our appreciation for manufacturing. Everything from “You Guys Rock” to “Manufacturing is Sew Amazing.” Then, on the big day, we started hanging them one-by-one in the glass windows outside the manufacturing facility.
In addition to the signs, USCC team members made about 20 different types of treats to keep our manufacturing team fueled up. From brownies and cookies to donuts and cake, it’s safe to say the team was feeling pretty sweet that day.
Keeping a secret from people you work with is not the easiest thing, but the genuine reactions on all their faces tell us we did alright.
USCC Manufacturing Recognized for Safety
Just a few days after the excitement for National Manufacturing Day, our team got some more great news.
Associated Wire Rope Fabricators (AWRF) notified us that our team achieved an LTIR safety rating of 0.00/Green in 2017. LTIR stands for Lost Time Injury Rate so, just like in golf, this low score means our manufacturing team was extremely safe and efficient this past year.
This serious dedication to safety and the well-being of all our team members starts with our leadership. In this case, Chris Biechler is the man in charge of the day-to-day operations of USCC manufacturing.
Chris says his number one goal as manufacturing manager is to send his team home in equal or better health than when they arrived. From pre-work stretches to safety boots and glasses, Chris makes sure the team is ready to take on the challenges of manufacturing each and every day.
At US Cargo Control, we typically prefer to stay laser-focused on ensuring our customers stay successful by ensuring we get you what you want, when you need it. But we are pretty proud of the recognition we’ve recently received.
“Our values are unique because they don’t just focus on work, they highlight how important it is to value our family lives as much as our work contributions.”
– Cody Smith, Warehouse Manager
Clickstop, the power behind US Cargo Control, was just named 2018’s No. 1 “Coolest Place to Work” in the Eastern Iowa Corridor. Because US Cargo Control is comprised of the same employees as Clickstop, this award belongs to US Cargo Control just as much as it belongs to Clickstop.
It’s a testament to our leadership, our dedicated staff, and the Core Values which direct us in our daily work. And it’s the fuel that drives us to continue working with steadfast dedication to our customers.
How is “Coolest Place to Work” Decided?
In 2013, the Corridor Business Journal (CBJ) unveiled a new way to recognize businesses for their culture. Throughout the Corridor, companies of all sizes compete for the prize of “Coolest Place to Work.” The contest identifies and honors Eastern Iowa companies that have created the most engaging and rewarding work environments. Winners are selected based on Worker Satisfaction Surveys and recognized within small (1-20 employees), medium (21-99 employees) and large (100 or more employees) businesses.
The consistency with which Clickstop (and US Cargo Control) has fared is unmatched. Clickstop has made the list each year, and for the second time, the honor of “Coolest Place to Work” is theirs.
What Makes US Cargo Control Cool?
US Cargo Control founder and CEO, Tim Guenther has made the message clear from the beginning, “We’re building a business that people care about.” He isn’t lying.
Genuine dedication is apparent in each US Cargo Control employee.
“We know we all have the best interest of the company and its customers in mind,” said Phil Kramer, Finance Specialist at US Cargo Control. “We work as a team and put the “We” mentality over the “Me” mentality.”
This commitment to workplace excellence may be best explained by our Core Values. These six non-negotiable expectations are more than words on a conference room wall, they are embedded in everything we say and do at US Cargo Control.
Think Big & Make It Happen
Promote A Winning Team Spirit
Make Time For Fun & Family
Expect Greatness In Yourself & Inspire It In Others
Communicate Openly With Confidence & Respect
Be Adventurous Embrace & Drive Change
“Our core values set individuals up for success,” one employee wrote in their survey. “They are the guiding principles.”

That’s why US Cargo Control offers a site-wide 10% military discount to all current, former, retired, and disabled members and dependents of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard and Reserve. More on this later.
First and foremost, remember that this is a day of remembrance and recognition. There are many different things you can do on this holiday, but some are more patriotic and impactful than others.
Patriotic Ways to Celebrate Memorial Day
It’s fine to have your barbecue and to enjoy some sunshine and watersports. But, also find some time to infuse remembrance and solidarity for these heroic men and women.
Visit a war memorial or veteran’s cemetery in your town.
US Cargo Control is a proud member of the National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE). NATE is a non-profit trade association that provides members with uniform safety standards, improved communications, and a unified voice for tower erection, service and maintenance companies.
For over 20 years, NATE has been recognized as the industry leader in promoting safety, standards, education and uniform practices and procedures.
Next week, Nashville, TN, is hosting NATE UNITE 2018, and our very own Lacy, Alex and David are very excited to be attending this annual event. These three are all members of US Cargo Control’s dedicated Rigging & Lifting team, meaning they are product experts within this specialized industry.
Along with educational sessions led by industry experts discussing current relevant topics, there is also an exhibition component where attendees get to meet other professionals within the telecommunications industry and see what new products are available.
The US Cargo Control team will be exhibiting at booth #437. Among the new products we’ll have on hand are Crosby, Van Beest, and Chicago Hardware shackles; cargo and lifting nets; a variety of slings; as well as custom options for lifting and rigging supplies.
Our team knows that NATE puts on a great annual event that never disappoints. From the educational sessions to the networking events, NATE does a great job of getting everyone involved. “One thing I have noticed about NATE and the telecom industry is the people and the passion they have for what they are doing,” says Lacy. We find that truly inspiring.
David, Alex and Lacy are most looking forward to spending time with our current customers, and they can’t wait to meet new people and spread that word about what US Cargo Control can do for their company. From the networking to the learning and beyond, US Cargo Control is very proud to be a NATE member, and a part of #NATEUNITE2018!
Please stop by and meet David, Alex and Lacy if you are attending this wonderful event.
