Review: Why Warren Trusts USCC

One of the top carriers for farm machinery in North America trusts US Cargo Control with its load securement needs. warren logo

Warren Transport, Inc. hauls heavy pieces of machinery across thousands of miles and needs reliable securement equipment to get the job done right.

Warren Director of Maintenance and Inventory Corey Vesely says his company buys from US Cargo Control because of its strong customer service and commitment to product quality. Part of that great experience is knowing USCC will provide safe, reliable products that are labeled with the legal working load limit and grade of chain.

“We find throughout the industry with securement items that some of them are not labeled. Some of them might be labeled but they are not actually what they are supposed to be,” Vesely said. “With US Cargo it’s very clear. It’s on the banding, it’s on the straps.”

Customer Review: BlackLine Winch Straps

100_3699This guest post is courtesy of US Cargo Control customer Randy Fischer.

A strap is a strap is a strap, right?  That’s what I used to think.  They’re all basically the same 4″ of poly-something-or-other webbing, with a hook or chain on one end.  Usually colored yellow, for some strange reason.  I always figured it just meant they were all manufactured in the same place and all the different cargo control companies just branded them with their own names and marketed them to truckers, each claiming that theirs was somehow superior to the others.

How can one be any better than another?  They all have the same exact 5,400 lb.Working Load Limit stamped right there on the tag, right?  So I, like most truckers, just bought my straps from whichever place I could find that had the best price.

That’s how I first became aware of US Cargo Control.  They seemed to have better pricing than the “other 100_3702guys.”  I ordered about a dozen straps from them.  I was not disappointed.  They’ve served me well over the years, but alas, they do not last forever.  Invariably, a tiny little tear on the edge of the strap will begin to form.  It doesn’t take long from there.  Once a rip gets started, it will spread rapidly straight across the webbing.  I had a few straps doing this recently and knew it was time to replace them.

Lisa from US Cargo Control asked me if I’d be interested in trying out their new BlackLine series of straps.  Sure…..Why not?  I still didn’t realize how they were any different, other than being a different color.

I was wrong!  These straps are waaaaay stronger!  I’m not exactly sure if it’s the material itself that is so much stronger, or the fact that it has a tighter weave along the edges, some combination of the two, or if they are weaved by little magic elves in the middle of the night while nobody’s around.  I don’t care, all I know is they’re strong.  The specs on the label prove it.  A 24,000 lb. breaking strength?  Incredible!  A 6,670 lb Working Load Limit?  Unheard of!!

100_3698 Sure, they cost a few bucks more than their regular straps, but still cheaper than most of the “other guy’s” plain old yellow straps.  I can’t help but believe they’ll last much, much longer.  It’s not going to be easy for a rip to get started on these puppies.

So, I’m happy to admit that I was wrong.  Not all straps are created equal.  From now on, only BlackLine straps will be appearing on my trailer (after I finish wearing out the rest of my yellow ones).  If you’re a flat-bedder, show the rest of the drivers you mean business, show them you’re a professional, show them you’re a “black belt”!!

New Product: Pre-Stretched Wrap

image of pre-stretched wrapOne of the products we’ve gotten the most requests for is a pre-stretched wrap.

Our professional moving company customers shared with us the benefits it offers over traditional stretch wrap and we were happy to add Torque® pre-stretched wrap from Paragon Films to our moving supplies collection.

A pre-stretched wrap is just that- pre-stretched- so it’s lighter in weight than regular stretch wrap. In fact, it’s about 1/3 the weight of a standard roll. Because it’s already stretched, the amount of pressure required when wrapping items is reduced, making it much easier to apply. Another benefit: because less force is required when wrapping, the user can walk forward when applying around a load rather than backward as with traditional file, making a pre stretch wrap safer to use as well.

The lighter weight and easier application of a pre stretch wrap does not decrease its strength. Instead, the rolled edge on the wrap makes it stronger, reduces tears, and creates excellent clinging properties. The thin design also reduces the amount of stretch wrap needed, so it’s an extremely cost-efficient choice for a variety of moving, packing and cargo control jobs. The thinner profile is also clearer, so items can be more easily seen through the wrap.

Torque® HandFilm pre-stretched wrap is available in single rolls and 4-packs.

Product Review: Magic Sliders

image of magic sliders 8 packWith moving season quickly heading into full swing, moving supplies are flying out the door at US Cargo Control. And with so many supplies for moving available, it can be difficult to tell if some items are really necessary to get the job done. Magic Sliders are one such essential.

Magic sliders come in both round and rectangular sizes. While these types of sliders for moving furniture were originally designed with adhesive to easily adhere to furniture legs, there’s also now a set that includes screws so you can screw them in to secure for good.

What’s great about moving supplies such as moving sliders is that they are something you can keep on hand and use again. They’re nice to have when it comes time to rearrange furniture or when you’re cleaning. And they’re not just for furniture- place some of these super sliders under a large box or potted plant you need to move. You can also keep a set in the garage or work shop to move tool boxes or other heavy items.

Customer Review: Cable Railing

image 2 of stainless steel cable railingWe just recently added a blog post about cable railing, but plus a short video about installing cable railing, so it was great to hear from a customer this week who installed some of our products in his new home and was kind enough to send us some pictures. The great thing about our cable railing products is that kits are available to ensure all the parts and hardware are included, but pieces can also be ordered separately as needed. Dustin and Brennan on our sales team worked with this customer to make sure he had everything he needed.

image stainless steel cable railing photo 3All of our assemblies are available in 1/8”, 3/16”, and ¼” diameters of stainless steel type 316 wire cable, in either a 1×19 configuration or a 7×7 construction. The 1×19 has a minimal stretch for a semi-rigid feel. It can be bent up to 45° if needed. The 7×7 wire is generally used for more decorative applications since it can be safely bent to angles greater than 45°. All of our cable railing can be maching swaged or hand swaged. This customer used a 1×19 construction and purchased the hand swage tool and swaged them all himself.

Product Review: Ergo 360 Winch Bar

The Ergo 360 Winch Bar features a new patent-pending design with a unique bend which keeps the handle and the tip are parallel.

This means the bar can rotate 360 degrees to accommodate a variety of clearance angles. It eliminates the user from low angels when tightening or releasing tension, to eliminate back and neck pain and the possibility of injury.

A handle design keeps the bar from slipping and it’s heat-treated for extra strength.

New Products: BlackLine Ratchet Straps, Winch Straps and Roll Off Straps

Our new BlackLine tie down straps were developed for US Cargo Control so we could offer customers premium tie downs with the strongest webbing on the market.

The line includes 2” and 4” wide ratchet straps, winch straps and roll off straps with higher break strengths than traditional webbing, to create an increased working load limit (WLL). 2″ straps have 13,000 lb. webbing while 4″ straps feature 24,000lbs webbing. This  means 4″ ratchet straps have a WLL of 6,670 lbs., while competitor’s straps have a 5,400 lbs. WLL.

Because BlackLine products are manufactured specifically for US Cargo Control, we were able to add additional features like thicker edges for increased durability. This design is made possible with a concentration of tough webbing, not an enhancement like thin wire.

We’ve also added black powder coating on flat hooks and 2” wide ratchet assemblies both protection and sleek style. Wire hooks and chain extensions also have zinc plating for increased resistance against the elements. The black color scheme coordinates better with company logos and colors than traditional colored straps.

As with all of our straps, BlackLine ratchet straps, winch straps and roll off container straps are labeled with WLL information so they meet DOT regulations, CVSA guidelines, CHP, North American Cargo Securement, and WSTDA standards.
